What fits inside a 9ft shipping container?

A standard 9ft container comfortably holds the contents of a 1–2 bedroom home – sofas, beds, wardrobes, appliances and boxes. We also offer reusable crates to hire, so you don’t need to buy cardboard boxes at all. Use our calculator to estimate how many containers you need for larger moves.
How much space do I need?

Each container measures 9ft long x 8ft wide, and can be lifted to fit tightly next to each other on a drive or garden.
Do you touch or handle my belongings?
+
No – You pack and lock your own container. Our certified HIAB TKS drivers deliver and collect the containers, but your items are never handled by our team. This means less risk of damage and complete privacy throughout your move.
How long can I keep the container?

As long as you need. We offer flexible hire periods – from a few days to several months. This is ideal if your completion date shifts, or there’s a gap between leaving your old property and moving into your new one. No removal van penalty fees, no panic.
What if my completion date changes?
+
No problem at all. Your packed container simply stays on your drive, or in our storage facility, until you’re ready. Just contact us on 07782 314 148 and we’ll update the delivery date at no extra stress to you.
How do you deliver and collect the containers?

We use our own HIAB flatbed lorry, the same professional equipment TKS uses for crane hire across Yorkshire, to deliver your container directly to your driveway. When you’re ready, we collect it and transport it to your new address or into our secure storage facility.
Is the container weatherproof and secure?

Yes. Our containers are fully weatherproof, lockable steel units. When stored at our Yorkshire facility between moves, containers are held in a secure, monitored compound.
Can I use multiple containers for different rooms?

Absolutely – and we’d recommend it. Using separate containers for different rooms or categories makes unpacking and sorting at the new property much simpler. Use our calculator to work out how many you need.
Do you offer reusable crates instead of cardboard boxes?

Yes. Hire our reusable plastic crates instead of buying single-use cardboard boxes – better for the environment and often cheaper than buying your own packaging. We deliver them with the container and collect them after your move.
Do you offer storage between moves?

Yes. If there’s a gap between your sale and purchase completing, we store your packed, locked container safely in our Yorkshire facility. Your belongings are ready to go the moment you need them – no unpacking and repacking into a self-storage unit.
What areas do you cover?

We serve Sheffield, Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Rotherham, York, Barnsley, Doncaster and the wider Yorkshire region. Not sure if we cover your area? Get in touch and we’ll confirm.
Are there weight limits?
+
Yes, there is a safe maximum load of 2 tonnes per container to ensure safe lifting and transportation. We’ll provide full packing guidance when you book.
Do I need to provide my own padlock?
+
Yes – for security and peace of mind, you lock the container yourself with your own padlock. This means only you have access to your belongings throughout the move.
Insurance is optional but recommended to cover your belongings during transport and storage. Your existing home contents policy may already provide cover – it’s worth checking with your insurer before your move.
